Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali has warned that strict departmental action will be taken against any police officer found engaging in biased behaviour during the upcoming national election.

He made the remark at DMP’s monthly crime review meeting held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium on Monday (October 13).

The commissioner instructed all officers to maintain utmost professionalism and neutrality in their duties. “The national election is approaching. We must ensure a conducive and peaceful environment for a free and fair poll. No officer should show any inclination toward any party or individual,” he said.

He also directed police units to remain alert so that banned or extremist groups cannot resume covert activities, and to intensify patrols across the city to strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.

Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) and Additional IGP Md. Sarwar, along with Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.N. Md. Nazrul Islam, also spoke at the meeting.
