Bidisha Ershad released from jail on bail

Former wife of late President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, Bidisha Siddique, has been released on bail from Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail in a fraud case.

Senior Jail Superintendent (additional charge) of the prison Md Nazrul Islam said she left the jail around 5pm on Tuesday afternoon. He said the bail papers of Bidisha reached the jail on Tuesday morning. After verifying the papers, a decision was taken to release her. She later left the jail around 5pm.

Earlier, Bidisha was arrested from a restaurant in the capital’s Gulshan on the night of August 25 in a fraud case. When she was produced in court the next day, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court rejected her bail application and ordered her to be sent to jail.

She had been in Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail since then. Bidisha left the jail nearly two weeks later with her release on bail on Tuesday.
