Biman Bangladesh Airlines MD, wife arrested

Biman Bangladesh Airlines' Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Md Shafiqur Rahman, and his wife, Bithi Rahman, have been arrested.

They were detained from their home in Uttara by Uttara Police on the night of Sunday, February 2. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station confirmed the matter on Monday, February 3.

The OC stated that the arrests are related to a case filed over allegations of torturing a domestic worker. The couple, along with two house helps detained in the same case, were produced in court on Monday afternoon, and the court ordered all four to be sent to jail.

Md Shafiqur Rahman began his career at Biman Bangladesh Airlines in 1986 as a trainee commercial officer and served in various key positions, including director of administration and human resources. He retired in 2017 but was reappointed as MD on September 4, 2024. The authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
