Biman preparing to launch direct Dhaka–Karachi flights: Bangladesh HC to Pakistan
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is preparing to launch direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi, with plans to operate three flights per week.
The development was confirmed by Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain Khan, in an interview with Pakistan’s daily The News on Wednesday (December 3).
Prior to the interview, the High Commissioner delivered a lecture at Pakistan’s Foreign Services Academy. When asked about the progress of Dhaka–Karachi direct flights, he said, “Yes, we are starting direct flights with Pakistan. Our national flag carrier will operate three weekly flights to Karachi.”
Responding to a question about using Indian airspace, Iqbal Hussain noted that Bangladeshi aircraft will be able to fly over India on the Karachi route, just as Indian carriers use Bangladeshi airspace.
However, diplomatic sources indicate that due to India’s ongoing airspace restrictions on Pakistan, Pakistani airlines are unlikely to resume flights to Dhaka anytime soon.
During his lecture at the Foreign Services Academy, the High Commissioner highlighted the vast potential for trade, connectivity, and cooperation in South Asia.
He pointed out that limited market access, border restrictions, and regional political strains continue to hinder the region’s economic growth.
