Biplabi Ganajot, an alliance of seven unregistered political parties, has urged the Election Commission (EC) to ease the requirements for party registration, proposing that parties be allowed to register based solely on having a central office, a central committee, and an organizational charter.

A seven-member delegation from the alliance met with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin and other election commissioners on Tuesday at Nirbachan Bhaban to present their demands.

“We’ve requested that registration be granted based only on a party’s central committee, central office, and charter,” said Abdul Monem, coordinator of the alliance and general secretary of the Bangladesh Ganomukti Party, speaking to reporters after the meeting.

Monem criticized the current registration law, calling it “impractical” and a legacy of the 2007–2008 caretaker government. “The Hasina-led government has made the law even more restrictive,” he added.

Formed in November last year, Biplabi Ganajot comprises the Bangladesh Ganomukti Party, Bangladesh Green Party, Biplobi Gorib Party, Bangladesh Sarbajanin Dal, Bangladesh Peace Forum, Bangladesh Samybadi Dal, and Prayat Neta Smriti Sangsad.

The delegation included Noor Mohammad Monir (Sarbajanin Party), Didar Hossain (Gorib Party), Jashim Uddin Raza (Peace Forum), Alok Chowdhury (Smriti Sangsad), Ahmad Hossain Bhuiyan (Samyabadi Dal), and Md Mozammel Haque (Green Party).
