Birth tourism intent may lead to visa rejection: US Embassy

The United States Embassy has reiterated that using a visa with the primary intent of travelling to the US to give birth and secure citizenship for a child is not permitted under visa regulations.

In a warning posted on its verified Facebook page on Wednesday morning (April 29), the embassy stated that such intentions are considered a violation of visa conditions and may lead to the rejection of applications.

According to the notice, consular officers may deny tourist visa requests if they determine that the applicant’s main purpose of travel is childbirth in the United States for the purpose of obtaining US citizenship for the newborn.

The embassy further said such practices are inconsistent with current US visa policies. Applicants have been urged to clearly state their genuine purpose of travel during the visa application process.

It also warned that providing false information or violating visa conditions could have long-term negative consequences for future travel to the United States.
