BJC, RFED call for revisions to journalists’ code of conduct for polls

Broadcast Journalists’ Center (BJC) and Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy (RFED) have urged the Election Commission (EC) to revise provisions in the journalists’ code of conduct that hinder media work during elections.

A delegation of BJC and RFED made the demand in a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Sunday (November 9).

A written proposals have been submitted to amend restrictive rules, including mandatory notification to presiding officers and the 10-minute polling center stay limit.

BJC Chairman Rezwanul Haque Raja said the EC assured cooperation and recognised that responsible journalistic coverage enhances election transparency.

He added that journalists must report irregularities without obstructing voting.

RFED President Kazi Jebel emphasised including clear punitive measures against attacks on journalists and extending the code to both national and local elections to ensure a safe and independent working environment.
