BMU hold awareness rally marking World Hemophilia Day
An awareness rally was held at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) on Friday morning (April 17) to mark World Hemophilia Day, with participation from healthcare professionals, students and patients.
The programme was organised by the Hematology Society of Bangladesh, with support from the Hemophilia Society of Bangladesh and the university’s Hematology Department.
This year’s theme, “Diagnosis: The First Step to Proper Treatment,” highlighted the importance of early detection.
The rally began at 8:00am from the campus premises and concluded in front of the D Block.
BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. F M Siddiqui, attending as chief guest, said hemophilia is a chronic bleeding disorder but patients can lead normal lives if diagnosed early and managed through coordinated treatment.
Speakers at the event stressed the need to increase public awareness and ensure access to proper care, noting that many hemophilia patients in the country remain undiagnosed.
The programme concluded with the unveiling of the “National Guideline for Management of Hemophilia,” jointly developed by relevant health authorities and organisations.
