BNP activist killed in Cox's Bazar over trivial matter
A local BNP activist has reportedly been beaten to death over trivial matter in Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali.
The deceased is Abdur Rashid, 50, son of Lal Mia of Uttar Nalbila area of Kalarmachara union in the upazila.
According to locals, former joint general secretary of the union unit Chhatra League Amit Hasan hit Rashid with a stick over a trivial incident around 11 am on Monday (April 14), leaving him critically injured.
He died on the way to the hospital, said locals.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshkhali Police Station Mohammad Kaisar Hamid said that the body of the deceased has been recovered and sent to the Cox's Bazar Medical Hospital morgue for autopsy. A drive is underway to arrest the main accused Amit.
Police arrested another local youth Kamrul Islam around 1:30 pm in this regard.
Eyewitnesses said that Rashid, who was standing in front of his house, had an argument with Chhatra League leader Amit about the fall of the government and party issues. At that time, Amit hit him on the head with a stick and Rashid fell to the ground.
The nephew of the deceased Rashid, Jahedul Islam, said that Amit had no previous enmity with his uncle.
