BNP activist stabbed to death by Jamaat leader's son

A young man named Rana Mia, 28, was stabbed to death by a Jamaat leader's son in Mymensingh. Six others were injured in the incident.

The incident took place at Ganger's house in Char Ishwardia Madhyapara village of Ward No. 31 of the city around 5pm on Tuesday.

The deceased Rana Mia is the son of the deceased Sharaf Uddin of the same area. He was an auto-rickshaw driver and a BNP worker by profession. The injured are Ashad, 36, Mofazzal, 35, Shahan, 45, Munsur Ali, 50, Shakil, 30, and Dini Mia, 35.

It is learned that the killer Mahin is the son of Mofidul Islam Master, a member of the working committee of Mymensingh Metropolitan Jamaat.

Mahabul, the relative of the deceased Rana, said, "We worked for BNP in the national elections and voted for the paddy sheaf." Since then, we have been at odds with Jamaat leader Mofidul Master. The boys from Mofidul Master's house came to buy drinks from the shop in front of our house after playing football on Monday.

At that time, an argument broke out between them. As a result, the people from Mofidul Master's house threatened to beat them up and left. Later, the boys from Mofidul Master's house attacked our house again at night. Later, Mofidul Master himself came to our house and resolved the matter and left.'

He said, 'Mofidul Master came with at least 50 to 60 people and attacked on Tuesday afternoon. During the attack, Mofidul Master's son Mahin stabbed Rana in the chest with a knife. Six more people were injured in the attack. Later, when the injured were rescued and taken to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared Rana dead.'

Mymensingh Metropolitan Jamaat Amir Kamrul Ehsan Imrul said, 'We have learned that the incident is not political. I have received initial information that this happened due to a family or group dispute.’

Mymensingh-4 (Sadar) constituency MP Abu Wahab Akand said, ‘The deceased Rana worked for me in the area in the last election. He was an active worker of BNP. I demand that those involved in the murder be arrested immediately and brought to justice.’

Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shibirul Islam said, ‘Upon receiving the news, the body was recovered and taken to the morgue of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Legal action is under process in this incident.’

Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Abdullah Al Mamun said, ‘Initially, various types of information are being received. An investigation is being conducted to see if the incident occurred due to political dispute or any other reason. The body has been recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy. An operation is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident. Additional police have been deployed in the area and the situation is currently under control.’
