BNP activist, wife allegedly beaten in Munshiganj
An allegation has been made that Babul Poddar, a BNP activist, and his wife were beaten in Ward 4 of Panchsar Union under Munshiganj Sadar upazila. BNP candidate Kamruzzaman Ratan from the Munshiganj-3 constituency has submitted a complaint to the Returning Officer demanding action against the culprits. The BNP candidate himself informed journalists of this information while speaking to them standing in front of the district BNP office in Thanarpul area of Munshiganj town around 1 pm on Wednesday.
Kamruzzaman Ratan, the sheaf of paddy symbol candidate from the Munshiganj-3 constituency comprising Sadar and Gazaria upazilas, said, "I am respectful of the law. Therefore, I have submitted a written complaint along with evidence of the beating incident to the District Returning Officer. I believe he will consider the matter seriously and take effective measures."
The BNP candidate further alleged that various propaganda was being spread against him and his election symbol on social media to spoil the election environment. "Even false propaganda that a particular candidate is ahead continued from the start of election campaigning until February 10. In this situation, after I and BNP leaders and activists presented the real picture of the constituency, voters' thinking and the election environment have changed."
Kamruzzaman Ratan said, "I believe voters will not be misled by such propaganda. They will remain vigilant, consider the reality, and give their valuable vote to their preferred candidate."
Enquiries reveal that the incident was not election-related. A fight broke out between Mojibur Poddar and Babul Poddar, a BNP activist from the same group, around 9:30 am on Wednesday over a property dispute.
