BNP alleges conspiracy surrounding Durga Puja
Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that a “deep conspiracy” is underway around Durga Puja, the main religious festival of the Hindu community.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Monday, Rizvi said, “Although Durga Puja’s Saptami is celebrated with joy, enthusiasm, and excitement, various malpractices are taking place. We want the festival to proceed peacefully, and everyone is remaining vigilant to ensure that.”
He added that BNP leaders and activists are overseeing security at nearly 35,000 Puja pandals across the country. The party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has reportedly urged leaders and activists to maintain communal harmony and ensure smooth celebrations.
Rizvi claimed that both domestic and foreign actors are attempting to sow discontent within the Hindu community and undermine the tradition of communal harmony. He also warned that signs of unrest in hilly regions and instability in the garment sector could be part of the same conspiracy, emphasizing that these are “not isolated incidents but linked to broader plans.”
Commenting on a recent statement by a Jamaat leader suggesting a potential attack or war by a neighboring country, Rizvi questioned its motive, calling it a potential fabrication. He stressed that unresolved issues should be addressed through diplomatic channels, warning that spreading fears of war threatens the nation’s independence and sovereignty.
Rizvi concluded, “We once witnessed the fall of a fascist regime. Today, people are questioning whether a new form of fascism is trying to emerge from the shadows.”
