BNP announces 2-day programme to press fair share of Teesta water
BNP has announced a two-day programme on February 17 and 18 to press home its demand for a fair share of Teesta river water and the implementation of the Teesta Mega Project.
The initiative aims to draw attention to the long-standing issue of water sharing between Bangladesh and India, and the need for a comprehensive solution to address the region's escalating water crisis, party sources said.
On February 17, the first day of the programme, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will deliver the inaugural speech at a public gathering in Lalmonirhat.
On February 18, the programme will conclude with a virtual address by BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He is expected to emphasise the urgency of resolving the Teesta water dispute and the importance of the proposed mega project for the region's development, according to party insiders.
Talking to the media, Asadul Habib Dulu, organising secretary (Rangpur division) of the BNP Central Executive Committee, said the programme will feature public gatherings at 11 locations across five districts along the banks of the Teesta river, including Nilphamari, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, and Gaibandha.
Cultural events will also be organised to engage local communities and highlight the significance of the Teesta issues, Dulu added.
