BNP backs legal framework for presidential pardons

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed its support for the proposal to regulate presidential pardons through legislation.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed this after a meeting with the National Consensus Commission and representatives from various political parties on Thursday at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

Similarly, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami also agreed that presidential pardons should be governed by law.

The eighth day of discussions between the National Consensus Commission and political parties began earlier on Thursday morning at the Foreign Service Academy.

Besides Salahuddin Ahmed, the meeting included notable political figures such as Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Amir Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, National Citizens Party (NCP) General Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Labor Party President Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Iran, and Amar Bangladesh Party General Secretary Fuad Abdullah.

The talks aim to build a broader national consensus on key governance issues ahead of upcoming elections.
