He made the announcement at a press conference held at the Narayanganj Press Club on Tuesday afternoon (December 16).
Masud said he decided to step aside due to safety risks and at the request of his family. The former president of the district chamber noted that his family had been worried about his security since he announced his candidacy.
He added that the family’s concerns intensified following a shooting incident involving Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency.
Considering the situation, Masud said he chose to respect his family’s wishes and withdraw from the race.
