A high-level nine-member delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is set to visit China on Sunday, June 22, at the invitation of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC).

BNP’s Media Cell member Syed Sayrul Kabir Khan confirmed this on Thursday (June 19), stating that the visit aims to deepen bilateral relations and foster party-level cooperation between the BNP and CPC.

The delegation includes key figures from the BNP leadership: Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Begum Selima Rahman, and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain. Also accompanying them are Zahir Uddin Swapan, Ismail Zabiullah, and Professor Sukomal Barua — all advisers to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia — as well as Dr. Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, the convener of the party's media cell.

Ahead of their departure, the BNP delegation met with the Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka on Thursday evening in a courtesy meeting hosted by the Chinese Embassy.

This visit comes in the wake of a previous political exchange earlier this year. On February 24, a 21-member multiparty delegation — which also included BNP representation — visited China on an 11-day trip aimed at strengthening political and diplomatic ties between Dhaka and Beijing.

Party insiders view the upcoming visit as a strategic opportunity for BNP to expand its international outreach and engage in dialogue with one of Asia’s key political powers.
