BNP does not support PR system: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that his party does not support holding elections under the proportional representation (PR) system.

He made the comments on Tuesday (August 19) upon returning to the country after a seven-day medical treatment in Thailand.

He said, “There is no alternative to a national election for the country’s political and economic freedom, and the people want elections quickly. The only way to resolve the crisis is to hold elections soon. Those who do not want political reforms— that is their party’s matter and responsibility.”

Commenting on the DUCSU election, the BNP Secretary General said, “Elections should be conducted fairly and smoothly with the participation of everyone. That is my expectation.”
