BNP Standing Committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has said that the party is disappointed due to the absence of a clear roadmap for the upcoming national parliamentary election.

He made this statement at a press conference held on Tuesday (May 27) at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan of Dhaka.

In a written statement at the Standing Committee’s press conference, it was said: “We are disappointed that the government's statement—delivered through the Chief Adviser’s press secretary regarding discussions with political parties—did not include any clear roadmap for the national election.”

Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said, “BNP and other political parties have never demanded the resignation of the Chief Adviser, nor do they now. However, we have consistently called for a roadmap to ensure a fair and impartial parliamentary election under the leadership of the interim government by December this year. Since reform is a continuous process, both reform and the election process can proceed simultaneously. The trial of the fallen fascist forces and individuals, including those accused of crimes against humanity, will continue.”

He added, “Inspired by the aspirations of the July student uprising, our top priority now is to establish a democratically elected political government as soon as possible to ensure people’s lost democratic, constitutional, and human rights, including the right to vote. Therefore, we demand an immediate and specific roadmap for forming a national parliament through a free, fair, and impartial election by December. The people believe that this should be the top agenda of the current interim government. If not, it will be difficult for BNP, as a people’s party, to continue cooperating with this government.”

He further stated, “To maintain stability in the country, prevent deterioration of law and order, keep the prices of daily necessities within the reach of the public, and boost investment and economic activity, we all expect the government to run the state based on national consensus.”

Other Standing Committee members present at the press conference included Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Salahuddin Ahmed, Major (Retd.) Hafizuddin Ahmed, and Selina Rahman.
