BNP expresses regret over public inconvenience during Tarique Rahman’s return reception
The BNP has expressed sincere regret over the public inconvenience caused in Dhaka during the return and reception of its acting chairman Tarique Rahman after 17 years in exile. Describing the disruption to normal life in the capital due to the massive turnout as “unintended”, the party said it was deeply saddened by the situation.
The regret was conveyed in a press release signed by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday, December 26. The statement was published at 2.08pm on the BNP media cell’s verified Facebook page.
According to the press release, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman returned home with his family on Thursday after 17 years. To welcome him, hundreds of thousands of people from across the country gathered in Dhaka, effectively turning the capital into a sea of people. The BNP said it was deeply concerned that the huge gathering caused hardship and inconvenience to normal public life, and expressed its heartfelt apologies for the unintended suffering and disruption.
