BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that a new understanding between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) will elevate bilateral relations to a new strategic level.

Speaking at Xi’an International Airport on Friday before returning to Dhaka, Fakhrul said the four-day visit — undertaken at the invitation of the CPC — marks a significant step in strengthening party-to-party and broader diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and China.

"The new understanding between the BNP and CPC will deepen cooperation and take the strategic relationship between our two nations to a new height," Fakhrul told reporters.

The nine-member BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul, is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 9:40 PM. The acting Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh is expected to receive them.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured a model community in the suburbs of Xi’an in Shaanxi Province. They were welcomed by the community committee’s secretary, who presented an overview of various social initiatives including healthcare services, volunteerism, disability rehabilitation, and education programs.

“These efforts were explained in detail to the BNP delegation, showcasing how such programs benefit community residents,” said Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP’s media cell.

The delegation also visited a museum dedicated to China's revolutionary history, where they observed efforts to educate children on the nation’s struggle for independence.

Before departure, the BNP team was formally seen off at the airport by senior officials from the CPC’s International Department, including its Director General.

The visit is viewed as a step toward expanding BNP’s international engagement and learning from China’s socio-political development model.
