BNP factional clash leaves 25 injured at Fazlur Rahman rally

At least 30 people were injured in a clash between leaders and activists of the BNP and Jubodal over internal party disputes during an election rally in Austagram upazila of Kishoreganj.

The incident occurred on Friday (January 23) evening in Bhatshala village under Kastul union of the upazila.

According to local sources, an election rally of BNP-nominated Kishoreganj-4 candidate Fazlur Rahman had been underway in Bhatshala village since the afternoon. However, he could not attend the rally due to illness. Towards the end of the programme, a procession led by Kastul union Jubodal general secretary Mahbub Alam Kismet arrived at the rally venue.

An argument broke out between Jubodal leaders and activists and supporters of local Ward No. 2 BNP president Sadeq Mia over seating arrangements. The altercation later escalated into a clash.

At least 30 people from both sides, including Jubodal leader Mahbub Alam Kismet, were injured in the clash.

Police rushed to the spot after being informed and brought the situation under control.

Austagram Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Soaib Khan confirmed the incident, saying that necessary legal action would be taken following an investigation if any complaint is filed.
