BNP headquarters reopens
The headquarters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Dhaka's Nayapaltan has reopened, after being closed for nearly two and a half months since October 28, 2023.
Under the leadership of the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, some BNP leaders and activists unlocked the collapsible gates of the office around 10:42am on Thursday. While entering the office, they chanted various slogans in honour of the party's founder Ziaur Rahman and Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Rizvi stated: "We broke the lock and entered the headquarters. The government's subservient law enforcement agencies brutally cracked down on our grand rally on October 28, which led to the closure of the office by the police."
He further mentioned that BNP's standing committee members, led by Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, will hold a press conference at the office at 3 pm to discuss the national election held on January 7.
Rizvi also stated that they will now clean the office in preparation for the press conference.
Following clashes, with the police during the party's grand rally on October 28 at Nayapaltan, the collapsible gate of the BNP's office was closed with a significant number of law enforcers deployed in the area.
