A BNP leader from Ghorashal Municipality has been accused of lifting up a sand trader in Narsingdi's Palash Upazila, beating him and biting his ear. The victim has filed a written complaint with the police station in this incident.

The incident took place on Monday (July 13) afternoon in front of the Bangladesh Jute Mill in Ghorashal of the upazila. Accused Mohiuddin Chishtia is the joint general secretary of Ghorashal Municipality BNP.

The injured businessman, Sakhawat Hossain, 48, is a resident of Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Palash Upazila Health Complex.

Sakhawat alleged that he had installed a dredger in the Shitalakshya River for sand filling work for a company under construction by TK Group inside the Bangladesh Jute Mill in Ghorashal. He alleged that he was later forcibly taken to Mohiuddin Chishtia's house on a motorcycle. He was kept there for about an hour and beaten. At one point, Mohiuddin grabbed his throat and bit his ear, causing serious injuries.

Sakhawat further alleged that after questioning him about installing a dredger in the area, Mohiuddin demanded a ransom of Tk 5 lakh and threatened to remove the dredger and leave the area immediately.

When asked about the allegations, Mohiuddin Chishtia said that he was busy with a political program. He would give details later through a video statement.

Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Palash Upazila Health Complex, said that Sakhawat came to the hospital with a serious injury to his ear. He had to get four stitches in his ear.
