A local BNP leader, who was arrested in a case of raping and killing a teenager in Narsingdi, has been expelled from the party.

The decision was announced in a party letter signed by Sadar Upazila BNP President Abu Saleh Chowdhury and General Secretary Md. Iqbal Hossain around 10:00pm on Friday (February 27).

The letter stated that clear evidence of violation of party discipline has been found against Ahmed Ali Dewan and his activities are against the party constitution. He has been expelled from all posts, including primary membership, as this has tarnished the party's image.

The expelled Ahmed Ali Dewan, 65, was a former member of Ward No. 9 of Mahishasura Union and the vice-president of the union BNP.

Police said that five people, including Ahmed Ali Dewan, were arrested in the incident on Thursday. The others arrested are - his son Imran Dewan, 32, Md. Ebadullah, 35, Ayub Ali, 30 and Md. Gaffar, 37.

The main accused in the case, Noor Mohammad Noora, was arrested from Maona in Gazipur and Hazrat Ali from Gouripur in Mymensingh around 9:00pm on Friday, confirmed Narsingdi Police Superintendent Md. Abdullah Al Faruk.

According to the case report, the girl knew Noora, who is known locally as a scoundrel. It is alleged that about 15 days ago, some young girls were picked up and raped under Noora's leadership. When the girl's family went to Ahmed Ali Dewan to seek justice for the incident, they did not get justice.

The family alleges that he embezzled money in the name of justice with the accused and tried to cover up the incident. At the same time, the girl's family was pressured to leave the area. The accused became more reckless due to the lack of justice.

Last Wednesday night, a group of youths led by Noora kidnapped the girl from her father in the Bilpar area while she was returning from her aunt's house. After a night-long search, her body was found in a mustard field between Bilpar and Darikandi around 9:30am the next morning.

On receiving information, Madhabadi police recovered the body from the spot. "An investigation into the case is ongoing," police said.
