BNP leader among 11 granted bail in Habiganj NCP case

A court in Habiganj has granted bail to 11 leaders, including district Chhatra Dal President Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon, in a case filed by the National Citizen Party (NCP).

The accused surrendered before the court of Judicial Magistrate Abdul Mannan in Habiganj on Sunday (August 2) and applied for bail. After hearing arguments, the court granted their bail. Advocate Qutub Uddin Jewel, counsel for the accused, said the case FIR did not clearly mention the time, date and place of the incident, nor were there specific allegations against the accused. Considering these factors, the court granted bail.

Following the bail order, Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon said they respect the law and had therefore approached the court to seek bail according to legal procedure. The court granted the application after hearing the case.

Earlier, on Tuesday, tensions escalated during NCP programmes in Azmiriganj and the district town of Habiganj. After the rally in the district town, when NCP central chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari and central leader Sarjis Alam were heading towards the Circuit House, their convoy came under attack in the Court Mosque area, resulting in several vehicles being vandalised. As the situation went out of control, Sarjis Alam and several other NCP leaders and activists took shelter in a nearby branch of Sonali Bank. Subsequently, a chase and counter-chase took place between the two groups, leaving at least 20 people injured.

Following the incident, on Wednesday night, NCP's associate organisation district Chhatra Shaktiv convener Tanmay Taher Rubel filed a case at Sadar Model Police Station, naming 11 individuals including district Chhatra Dal President Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon, along with approximately 100 unidentified others.
