BNP leader among 11 sued for biting businessman in Narsingdi
A case has been filed against 11 people including Ghorashal Municipality BNP Joint Secretary Mohiuddin Chishtia for allegedly picking up a sand trader, beating him, demanding extortion and biting his ear in Narsingdi's Palash Upazila.
On Tuesday (July 14) night, Md. Sajeeb Mia, the proprietor of Messrs. Sajeeb Traders, filed the case with Palash Police Station. Palash Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahed Al-Mamun confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
Mohiuddin Chishtia has been named as the main accused in the case. In addition to the names of 10 other people, 15 to 20 unidentified people have been named as accused.
The case alleges that on Monday afternoon, while a dredger machine was being installed on the river bank in Tekpara, Ghorashal, as part of a sand supply project for an industrial establishment, a group of men armed with country-made weapons arrived there and demanded a ransom of Tk2 million. When sand trader Sakhawat Hossain refused to pay the ransom, he was taken away on a motorcycle at gunpoint. It is also alleged that about Tk2.5 lakh was damaged by vandalizing the pipe of the dredger machine.
The case further states that Sakhawat was taken to the house of BNP leader Mohiuddin Chishtia and beaten up. At one stage, his ear was bitten and injured and an attempt was made to kill him by tying a towel around his neck. Later, when he was left on the side of the road in a seriously injured condition, locals rescued him and admitted him to the Palash Upazila Health Complex.
Palash Police Station OC Shahed Al-Mamun said that a drive is underway to arrest those involved in the incident.
Despite multiple attempts to contact Mohiuddin Chishtia on his mobile phone to get his statement on the allegations, he could not be reached.
