BNP leader among five accused in Kendua schoolgirl gang-rape case

A schoolgirl has allegedly been gang-raped in Kendua of Netrokona, with her family claiming she is now pregnant following the alleged assaults.

Following this, a case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against five people, including Kendua municipal BNP joint secretary Bakul Mia.

The victim’s father filed the case with Kendua Police Station on Tuesday night, Md Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kendua Police Station confirmed.

Several unidentified people have also been named in the case.

Police arrested one of the accused, Abu Mia, 36, after the case was filed. Bakul and the other accused remain at large, police said.

The OC said, Abu had been sent to jail through court proceedings. Police are conducting raids to arrest the remaining accused, including the BNP leader.

According to the case statement and the victim’s family, the girl is a Class 10 student at a local school. The complaint alleges that Bakul took her to a house on November 20, 2022, and raped her. The alleged assault was recorded on a mobile phone, and she was subsequently raped multiple times after being threatened with the release of the video.

The complaint further alleges that between March and April 2025, a woman allegedly linked to Bakul took the girl to a rented house, where several people allegedly raped her. The case also alleges that she was assaulted repeatedly between January and July this year.

The family said they became aware of the matter after a video involving the girl was circulated on August 1. A medical examination at a private clinic on August 18 reportedly found that she was around six months pregnant.

Kendua municipal BNP General Secretary Moazzem Hossain said the party had learned about the allegations and would take organisational action against Bakul if the allegations were established.
