BNP leader beaten to death by fellow activists in Rajshahi

A BNP leader was beaten to death by fellow party members during a violent internal clash at Charghat in Rajshahi.

The incident took place around 9:30pm in Sipaipara village of Yusufpur Union Friday night (February 27).

The deceased, Ershad Ali, was a resident of Sipaipara and a member of Yusufpur Union BNP. He was a follower of Rajshahi-6 (Bagha-Charghat) MP and district BNP convener Abu Said Chand. Those accused belong to the faction led by former district BNP vice president Anwar Hossain Ujjal.

Sirajul Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Charghat Police Station, said, "The clash erupted over an internal dispute during a religious gathering after Friday prayers. Ershad Ali was attacked with sticks and guava tree branches while returning home after Tarabi prayers and succumbed to his injuries. The body has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital for post-mortem."

"A murder case has been filed and police are searching for the suspects. An investigation is underway into this matter," he added.
