Selim Bhuiyan, the convenor of the Heshakhal Union Swechasebak Dal in Cumilla's Nangalkot, was killed in an attack by a rival BNP group. At least six others were injured in the incident.

The victims are supporters of Mohammad Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan, a former BNP Member of Parliament. The attackers are reportedly supporters of BNP leader Mohammad Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan.

The incident took place on Saturday (February 1) in Kakairotla, a village in the area. According to reports, several supporters of Gafur Bhuiyan were riding motorcycles to a rally after attending a feast when they were suddenly ambushed by supporters of Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan. During the attack, Selim Bhuiyan was struck in the head and died at the scene, while the injured were taken to the hospital.

The identities of the attackers have not been confirmed yet.

BNP leader Mohammad Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan said, "Our district leaders have appointed some drug-affected individuals to the committee instead of focusing on proper leadership. They are acting freely. Supporters of Mobasher Alam attacked our unarmed workers with weapons."

He called for justice for the attack, which resulted in the killing of Heshakhal Union Swechasebak Dal convener Selim Bhuiyan and the injury of several others.
No one from Mobasher’s BNP group was available for comment.

Nangalkot Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) A K Fazlul Haque said, "Selim Bhuiyan has been killed, and several others have been injured. I have just arrived at the scene and will provide more details later."
