Mir Khorshed Alam, chairman of Adaur Union Parishad in Madhabpur upazila, Habiganj, and vice-president of the upazila BNP, has filed a general diary (GD) with Madhabpur Police Station after receiving death threats through a parcel containing funeral shroud sent by post.

Mir Khorshed Alam said a parcel arrived at the union parishad office by post on Thursday. Upon opening it, he found a white cloth labelled as funeral shroud along with an anonymous letter. The letter contained death threats and also mentioned several other names.

He said that despite being in politics and serving as a public representative for a long time, he has no personal enmity with anyone to his knowledge. However, such threats have left him and his family members in fear. He informed law enforcement agencies and filed a GD at the police station.

In a Facebook status on Saturday, Mir Khorshed Alam wrote that if anyone has any complaints or demands against him, they should come forward directly instead of threatening. He called on them to reveal their identities and said he is respectful of the law, and that truth will eventually prevail.

Madhabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sohel Rana said the complaint is being investigated seriously.
