The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled a local leader over allegations of vandalism and assault on a female teacher at a government college in Durgapur upazila of Rajshahi.

In a statement issued on Friday (April 24), BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed the expulsion of Akbar Ali, vice-president of Joynagar Union BNP.

The statement said Akbar Ali had been removed from all party positions, including primary membership, for activities deemed contrary to party discipline, policy and ideology.

The incident reportedly took place during an examination at Daokandi Government College, where a group allegedly entered the campus and attacked a teacher with sandals, leaving several people injured.

Responding to the allegations, Akbar Ali said he was not aware of the incident in detail. He claimed that local elders had visited the college with invitation papers, and a dispute arose after a teacher questioned their presence, which later escalated into a scuffle.
