BNP leader shot dead in Khulna
A BNP leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Mathabhanga area under Lobanchora Police Station in Khulna on Friday afternoon, June 12.
The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam Gazi, a member of the Batiaghata upazila BNP convening committee. He was the son of Ratan Gazi of Kazipara village in Lobanchora Police Station area and was locally known as Dhakaiya Rafiq.
Lobanchora Police Station Officer-in-Charge Syed Mosharraf Hossain said Gazi was returning home from the Dashgate area when several assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him. A bullet hit his abdomen. He was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
An investigation has been launched to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the killing, the OC added. Police operations are underway to arrest those responsible.
