BNP leader's body recovered from Kaptai Lake 2 days after disappearance

The body of BNP leader Md Masud (50) was recovered from Kaptai Lake in Rangamati on Monday afternoon, two days after he went missing. His body was found floating in the lake in the Gorjontila area of Kaptai upazila around 1pm. After receiving information from locals, a joint team of fire service, police and navy recovered the body.

Md Masud was the president of Ward No 6 of Kaptai Union and a businessman by profession. His family said he used to take his engine-run boat to Bilaiichhari Bazar every week to sell rice, pulses, vegetables and other daily essentials. He went missing in Kaptai Lake while returning home after selling goods on Saturday. Police recovered his boat from the Gorjontila area that afternoon.

Kaptai Union Parishad Chairman Engineer Md Abdul Latif said locals spotted the body floating in the Gorjontila area at noon and informed police. Later, police, navy and fire service personnel recovered the body.

Kaptai Fire Service senior officer Md Shahadat Hossain said locals informed the fire service after spotting the body. Fire service personnel immediately went to the spot and began recovery efforts.

Kaptai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan said the body of the missing BNP leader has been recovered. Legal action is being taken in this regard.
