BNP leader's body recovered from Kaptai Lake two days after going missing

The body of BNP leader Md Masud (50) was recovered from Kaptai Lake in Rangamati two days after he went missing, with rescue efforts by the Fire Service, Navy and Police.

On Monday (July 20) afternoon, locals spotted his body floating in the lake in the Gorjontila area of Kaptai upazila and informed the police. A joint rescue team later recovered the body.

Md Masud was the president of Ward No 6 of Kaptai Union BNP and a businessman by profession.

Family members said he used to travel by engine-powered boat every week to sell rice, lentils, vegetables and other daily essentials at Bilaichhari market. After selling his goods on Saturday, he went missing on his way back in Kaptai Lake. His boat was recovered from the Gorjontila area that afternoon.

Kaptai Union Parishad Chairman Engineer Md Abdul Latif said the police, navy and fire service recovered the body following information from locals.

Kaptai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan said the body has been recovered and legal proceedings in this regard are ongoing.
