BNP leader’s body recovered in Teknaf

The body of former Union Parishad member Mohammad Yunus Sikder, 42, has been recovered in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. Police recovered the floating body on Wednesday morning, November 5, around 9 am, from the Anowar Project area near the Rangikhali road of Hnila Union.

The deceased was the son of Md Kashem from Chandli Para area of Sabrang Union. He was a former member of ward no. 1 of Sabrang Union Parishad and president of Teknaf Upazila Committee of Arafat Rahman Koko Krira Sangsad.

According to locals and eyewitnesses, pedestrians spotted a man’s body at the Anowar Project area in Rangikhali. He was wearing only a pair of trousers. However, there were no visible injury marks on his body. They later informed the police, who arrived at the scene.

Family members of the deceased said Yunus had gone to Rangikhali area of Hnila to attend an invitation. However, they could not initially say who invited him or how he was killed. They demanded that the mystery behind the incident be revealed quickly and those involved be brought to justice.

Teknaf Police Station’s Investigation Officer Himel Roy said locals reported seeing a body near the Rangikhali fish enclosure this morning. Police later went to the scene, identified the man, and sent the body to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue. He added that police are investigating to uncover the mystery behind the killing.
