A woman named Lili Akter was hacked to death by miscreants in Tangail on Tuesday night (September 16). The incident occurred around 9pm at Kuizbari village in Mogra union of Tangail sadar upazila.

The deceased, Lili Akter, was the wife of SM Anisur Rahman Uttam, General Secretary of Mogra Union BNP.

Local residents and BNP activists said that Uttam’s biscuit factory is located next to his residence. Every evening, after prayers, Uttam would go to the factory. On Tuesday night, when he was late to arrive, his wife Lili went there to look for him. At that time, masked assailants, who had been lying in wait, attacked her with sharp weapons. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot, but the attackers fled. Lili was rescued and taken to Tangail general hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Locals said, “Two men were standing outside the factory, while one armed assailant with his face covered was inside. It is believed that they had come to kill the BNP General Secretary of Mogra Union.”

Tangail District BNP General Secretary Farhad Iqbal said, “It is not yet known who carried out the attack. We are deeply shocked by the incident.”

Tangail sadar police station OC Tanvir Ahmed said efforts are underway to identify those involved. The victim’s husband has filed a case against unidentified assailants.
