As part of its electoral understanding with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, the BNP will not field candidates in four parliamentary constituencies, party leaders confirmed on Tuesday (December 23).

The announcement was made at a press conference at the BNP chairman’s political office in Gulshan.

Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s Standing Committee, and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that Jamaat will contest in Nilphamari-1, Narayanganj-4, Sylhet-5, and Brahmanbaria-2, while BNP will not nominate any candidate in these areas.

The four Jamaat candidates are: Md. Manjurul Islam Afendi (Nilphamari-1), Monir Hossain Qasemi (Narayanganj-4), Md. Ubaidullah Faruk (Sylhet-5), Zunaid Al Habib (Brahmanbaria-2).

Mirza Fakhrul emphasised that this is a central party decision, warning that BNP will take strict organisational action against any independent BNP candidate contesting in these constituencies.
