BNP serves show cause notice to leader over threats to education board chairman

BNP has served a show cause notice to former MP Abdul Gafur Bhuiya for allegedly threatening the Comilla Education Board chairman and shutting down schools to conduct a party conference.

The notice, signed by BNP’s Cumilla Divisional Organising Secretary, Principal Selim Bhuiya, on Friday (15 August), instructs him to submit a written reply within three working days.

Recently, frustrated over not being appointed to a position on the education board, Gafur Bhuiya allegedly threatened and verbally abused Chairman Professor Md. Shamsul Islam over the phone. During the call, he reportedly said, “Who gave you this chair? I will break their courage and yours as well. I will come to your office and humiliate you. I will file a case against you. Let’s see how brave you are.” The situation eased after he was appointed to the post within 24 hours.

Local BNP leaders, embarrassed by the incident, said that strict action should be taken against those involved in such controversial actions.

Commenting on the matter, Gafur Bhuiya said, “I have received the notice and will submit my reply on time.”
