BNP supporters lay siege to Cumilla police station demanding leader’s release
Protesters in Cumilla’s Adarsha Sadar upazila staged a demonstration, surrounding to Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station, demanding the release of a local leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The detainee, Rezaual Kaiyum, president of Adarsha Sadar upazila BNP, was picked up from the Shashongacha area of the city around noon on Sunday (May 3), police said.
He is currently being questioned at Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station.
Additional police were deployed in and around the area to maintain law and order. Security was also tightened at the office of the district’s Superintendent of Police.
Police have not yet clarified the reason behind the detention.
Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Anwar confirmed the detention, saying further details would be disclosed after initial questioning.
