BNP to field single candidates in local polls: Dulu

BNP will field single candidates at all levels in the upcoming local government elections, said National Parliament Whip and Natore-2 MP Advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu. He also said there will be no scope for multiple BNP candidates in the same upazila, municipality or union.

He made the remarks as chief guest at a dua mahfil at the Natore district BNP office on Saturday morning, September 5, and later at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Madhnagar Degree College academic building in Noldanga upazila.

Dulu said the party's nomination would be given to the most popular candidate, and no exception would be made in this regard.

He said leaders who are not nominated will also be evaluated. They will be given important positions in upazila, municipality and union BNP committees based on their merit and standing. No dedicated leader will be left out.

Calling on party activists to be more active in the upcoming elections, Dulu said BNP activists must understand the political gap between the Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat-e-Islami is sending female workers door to door for campaigning and seeking votes by exploiting religious beliefs. Activists must be vigilant so that others cannot influence BNP's female voters.

Dulu said to destroy a nation, the most important need is to destroy its education system. The previous government kept the education system weak so that the people of the country could not move forward and become economically self-reliant.

The dua mahfil was organised to pray for the speedy recovery of Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and to mark the fourth death anniversary of late Natore district BNP convener Aminul Haque.
