BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is committed to rebuilding the institutions that have collapsed under what he described as a "fascist regime."

Speaking at the opening session of the Thakurgaon District BNP Conference around 11:30 am, Fakhrul asserted that restoring democracy and strengthening party structures are top priorities for the BNP.

"This conference is aimed at establishing democracy in a free and fair environment," said Fakhrul. "Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, we are pledging from this platform to ensure sustainable democracy in Bangladesh."

He added that institutions destroyed by authoritarian rule will be restored and made stronger. "To achieve that, we must first strengthen the BNP as a political organization," he noted.

The event marks the first district-level conference in nearly eight years and has drawn enthusiastic participation from BNP leaders and activists across all levels. Large crowds gathered at Thakurgaon’s central field early in the morning, many joining in with processions and chanting slogans.
