BNP chairperson Tarique Rahman has said the party wants to move away from a culture of political blame and instead take advice from young people to build the country through realistic and practical planning.

He made the remarks on Sunday morning while joining a policy talk with young people in Chattogram.

Speaking about overseas education, Tarique Rahman said many students face financial hardship while studying abroad. To support them, BNP is planning to introduce a student loan scheme.

Highlighting environmental and water management plans, he said excavating canals would not only reduce waterlogging caused by rainfall but also increase groundwater reserves. “If we come to power, we plan to excavate 20,000 kilometres of canals across the country,” he said.

The BNP chairperson said political parties gain nothing by making promises without attempting to implement them, adding that public support depends on delivery.

He said no plan can succeed without strengthening law and order and curbing corruption. “Extortion has spread through society in various forms. A government’s message alone can solve many problems. If the message is zero tolerance against corruption, such crimes will be significantly reduced,” he said.

Tarique Rahman said BNP wants to place special emphasis on vocational institutes. “We will identify which vocational skills will be globally important over the next five to ten years and include them in the curriculum. By providing training and language skills and sending workers abroad, Bangladesh can export a high-quality workforce,” he said.

On healthcare, he said building hospitals in every district may sound appealing but would take years and would not be sustainable. “Instead, we want to create a sustainable system by recruiting healthcare workers and building health awareness at the household level,” he said.

He also said BNP plans to connect schools through audio-visual systems so that top teachers from different parts of the country can deliver lessons remotely. Similar modern devices will be provided for teacher training, he added.
