BNP will give greater importance to ending India’s “dominance” if it comes to power, said the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He said, “If BNP can come to office through people’s votes, alongside other issues, we will give top priority to ending India’s dominance.”

He made the remarks on Saturday after inspecting the rubber dam built over the Mahananda River in Chapainawabganj.

Mirza Fakhrul said, we want our neighbouring country to maintain a good relationship with us if they wish, and I believe since they helped us during the 1971 Liberation War, they should help Bangladesh even more today.

But unfortunately, during the tenure of the previous government and the Modi administration, we have seen the opposite — they have put pressure on Bangladesh, taken everything, but given us nothing in return. This was the failure of the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina government, they could not secure anything, he said.

The BNP leader said, however, we are one hundred per cent committed, this is our politics. We live in the land called Bangladesh, and we will prioritise securing our full share of water, ending border killings, and fixing everything related to our balance of trade.

“This time the Ganges and Farakka barrage issues will get top priority. Border killings will also get importance. Ending India’s dominance will get the most focus,” added Mirza Fakhrul.

The BNP Secretary General joined a public rally held in Chapainawabganj as part of the movement titled “Save Padma, Save the Country, Bangladesh First.” Later in the afternoon, he addressed another rally at the Nawabganj Government College field.
