BNP won’t accept AL members, but won’t exclude honest individuals: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that his party will not accept members from the ousted Awami League following the recent student and public uprising. However, he clarified that they will not exclude people who are genuinely good.
Speaking at a member renewal event of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP on Wednesday, Fakhrul warned that divisions among like-minded parties risk overshadowing the Awami League’s misdeeds, potentially allowing agents of the former autocratic government to gain influence.
“We will not take the Awami League into our party, but we will not reject good individuals,” he said.
Regarding a recent meeting between Dr. Yunus and Tarique Rahman, Fakhrul acknowledged that the election timing agreed upon during the meeting was not favored by all. As a result, one party boycotted the Election Commission meeting on Tuesday. He commended the meeting for helping the country move away from political crisis.
Fakhrul urged BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant to ensure that the people’s rightful rights are restored and the rule of law is firmly established.
