BNP-Jamaat-backed panel sweeps Rajbari District Lawyers’ Association poll
The BNP-Jamaat-supported Combined District Lawyers’ Unity Council secured a decisive victory in the Rajbari District Lawyers’ Association elections, winning nine of the 11 seats, including president and general secretary.
The remaining two seats—joint secretary and one member—went to candidates backed by the Awami League-supported District Lawyers’ Coordination Council.
Voting was held on Tuesday (March 31) from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the association’s main building in a festive atmosphere. Out of 213 registered voters, 210 cast their ballots. Results were announced around 8:30pm by Chief Election Commissioner and senior lawyer Ashok Kumar Saha.
The declared winners include Kazi Abdul Bari (Kutine) as president with 120 votes, Abdul Hakim Khan Ripon as vice president with 127 votes, and Md. Abdur Razzak as general secretary with 133 votes.
Other successful candidates from the BNP-Jamaat-backed panel include members for various positions such as sports, culture, and general members.
From the Awami League-backed panel, Md. Arab Ali won the joint secretary seat with 108 votes, and Md. Shariful Islam won a member seat with 112 votes.
Additional oversight was provided by election commissioners Maruf-ul Hasan Shamim and Muhammad Obaidur Rahman.
