BNP-NCP activists face off in Chattogram over Habiganj attack protest
Leaders and activists of BNP and the National Citizen Party (NCP) have taken opposing positions in the Jamalkhan Press Club area of Chattogram city over the protest against the attack on NCP leaders in Habiganj. The situation has turned tense.
Both groups took positions in front of the Press Club around 4pm on Wednesday (July 29), prompting additional police deployment to control the law and order situation.
According to eyewitnesses, a verbal altercation broke out between the two sides at one point during the NCP protest. However, no reports of clashes had been received by the time of this report.
The NCP said their leaders and activists were holding a protest programme against the attack on their leaders in Habiganj.
On the other hand, BNP leaders and activists said they had gathered to protest and resist the derogatory remarks made against the Prime Minister.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Zayed Md Nazmun Noor said there had been exchanges of words between the two sides. Police have taken position between them to keep the situation under control.
