BNP's 47th founding anniversary today
The 47th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is being observed today, Monday (September 1) with a weeklong series of programmess across the country. The party was founded in 1978 by martyred President Ziaur Rahman, who served as its founding chairman.
In a statement issued on the occasion, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to restoring democratic governance, upholding national sovereignty, and securing the rights of the people.
“BNP’s core mission is to reestablish multi-party democracy, safeguard the country's independence and sovereignty, and alleviate public suffering,” Tarique Rahman said.
He extended his greetings and congratulations to leaders, activists, supporters, and the general public on the occasion of the party’s founding anniversary.
“The people of Bangladesh draw inspiration from this day,” he added. “It represents the beginning of a political journey committed to ensuring full independence, strong national sovereignty, and the institutionalization of democratic values.”
To oversee the anniversary programmes, BNP has formed a 16-member National Celebration Committee. BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has been appointed as convener, and Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi will serve as the member secretary.
On September 1, the party flag was hoisted at BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan and district offices nationwide at 6:00 AM.
At 11:00 AM, senior party leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and members of the Standing Committee, will pay tribute at the mausoleum of Ziaur Rahman by offering Fateha and floral wreaths.
District and city-level units will also hold rallies and discussion meetings across the country to mark the day.
September 2: A central rally will be brought out from the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters.
September 3: Discussion meetings and colorful rallies will be held at upazila and municipality levels.
In addition, the BNP will publish special anniversary supplements in national newspapers and has already released commemorative posters. A roundtable discussion focusing on current political issues will be organized in the coming days.
