Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam has said that BNP's stance on the interim government aligns with that of the Awami League.

Adviser Nahid Islam made the remark in an interview with BBC Bangla on Friday (January 24), amidst ongoing tensions between BNP and student groups over national elections.

Earlier, in a Wednesday interview with BBC Bangla, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had said, "If the current government is not neutral, a neutral government will be needed to organize the elections." He also suggested that students wanting to form a political party should distance themselves from the government.

In response, Nahid Islam posted on Facebook, suggesting that Mirza Fakhrul's statement hinted at the possibility of a "one-eleven" style government. He added, "We consider the interim government neutral. Now, BNP should clarify why they don't think so."

Nahid also noted, "BNP believes this government was formed solely for elections, but the change of government came not through elections, but through a mass uprising."

Earlier, Awami League's official Facebook page shared a post quoting Mohammad Ali Arafat, who referred to Professor Muhammad Yunus’ government as an "unelected and unconstitutional government" and argued that the next election should be held under a new caretaker government, not the current one.

Nahid Islam commented to BBC Bangla, "I don't think BNP made this statement for any particular reason, but the tone of their words matches the Awami League's stance."

Stressing his stance, Nahid added, "I would resign from the government if I chose to join a political party."
