Boat capsizes in Padma in Chapainawabganj, BSF rescues 10 on Indian border

A dinghy boat capsized in the Padma River in Narayanpur union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, leaving 10 people missing. They were later rescued by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is in contact with the BSF to bring the rescued people back to the country.

The incident occurred around 5:30pm on Saturday, September 12. Narayanpur Union Parishad Chairman Md Nazir Hossain confirmed the matter.

The UP chairman said a group of 11 to 12 people was travelling by dinghy boat from Bakharali Ghat in Sadar upazila towards Jahorpur camp and Ward No. 8 of Narayanpur union. On the way, the boat capsized in the Padma River.

He said one person managed to swim to the shore at the time. The other 10 to 11 people drifted with the current into the Indian border area. Members of the BSF's Khandoha camp in India later rescued them. They are currently understood to be in BSF custody.

Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, commander of the Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB), said members of the BSF's Khandoha camp rescued 10 people in the boat capsize incident in the Padma River. The BGB has contacted them.

He further said efforts are underway to bring the rescued people back to the country by Saturday night.
