Bodies of all 5 children missing in Jamalpur river recovered

The bodies of the five children who drowned in a river in Madarganj in Jamalpur, have been recovered. The bodies of four children were recovered earlier while the body of one child named Baishakhi, 12, was recovered from the Katakhali river in Char Bhatiani of the upazila on Sunday morning.

The five children went missing when their boat capsized on Friday (October 31) afternoon. The bodies of three were recovered in the evening while the fourth body was recovered on Saturday.

The deceased children are--Abu Hasan,8, and Poli Akhter, 12, children of expatriate Dudu Mia of the area, and the deceased's cousin Shayeba Akhter, 12, Azad's daughter Kulsum Akhter, 12, and Baishakhi Akhter, 11, daughter of Hossain Ali of the area.

Locals and the fire service said that Abu Hasan fell off the boat while playing in the Katakhali River at 3 pm last Friday. Later, while trying to save him, everyone drowned one by one.

The fire service's diving team recovered the bodies of Abu Hasan, Saiba and Polly at night. The body of child Kulsum was recovered the next day, Saturday. The latest was Baishakhi's body, which was recovered on Sunday morning.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madarganj Police Station Saifullah Saif said that the body of child Baishakhi was the last of the five missing children to be recovered. The body has been handed over to the family members.
